RANWC Defeats $5000 Tax!!
For the past year RANWC Director of Government Affairs, Jeff Metzger along with members of the Legislative South Committee has been reviewing recommendations by the Rolling Meadows Affordable Housing Ad Hoc Committee. One of the recommendations was a proposed $5,000 tear down fee. This proposal came out of the Ad Hoc Committee as a means to deter property owners from tearing down their homes and building a new home on the lot. Jeff has been working with Alderman Tom Rooney in opposition to this proposal. We are proud to report that the proposal was defeated on 1st reading with a vote of 6-1. Special thanks to RANWC Board Member Tom Krettler for testifying before the Rolling Meadows City Council meeting on Tuesday of this week. The City of Rolling Meadows will be considering a mandatory set-a-aside initiative sometime after the first of the year. We will be opposing that and working with the city on alternatives that promote affordable housing.
